Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be left alone for between 2 and 4 hours with proper training. But it must be said that the Cavalier loves company and does not like to be left alone for very long. His job was to be a children’s playmate or a bed warmer for wealthy ladies. So he was always right by his owners and spent time with them.

He must learn that it is perfectly normal to be alone between times.
How long can Cavalier King Charles Spaniels be left alone?
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel loves to cuddle and always prefers to be near his owners.
So the Cavalier is not the best dog for staying alone. In various forums, you can read that the dogs can stay alone between 2 and 4 hours, sometimes even 6 hours.
The prerequisite is that you have gradually built up and trained your dog to stay alone. You often read that 2 Cavaliers in the house remain alone “together.”
We also have three dogs – two Broholmers and one Cane Corso – that have to stay alone for several hours now and then.
It is only 3 hours a day during the week, but it can be longer if we go to a birthday party or something similar where we can’t or don’t want to take the two giants with us.
With the Broholmer, there were never any problems with staying alone. With the Cane Corso, who doesn’t like to be alone, it was no problem either because the other dog was a part of the pack.
When can Cavalier King Charles Spaniels be left alone?
Even though there are dogs like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that prefer to be with their owners all the time, there are situations where you can’t avoid leaving the dog alone for a while.
But especially in the first 2 to 4 weeks, the puppy is with you; you should avoid this if possible and see that someone is always at home.
The little puppy misses his mommy and needs a confidant to get used to the new environment, smells and impressions.
So it is advisable to take free time during the first weeks and make the acclimation as easy as possible for the new family member.
How to train your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to stay alone
You should start training from the beginning. You start by just leaving the room, closing the door, and coming back into the room after a few seconds.
The important thing is that you don’t make a big deal about it when you leave the room. You also don’t praise your Cavalier when you come back.
If this works well, you will gradually increase the length of your absence.
Extend your training by leaving the house to go to the mailbox or take out the garbage. Again, if your dog does well, you should gradually increase the time. And so your Cavalier gets used to being alone bit by bit.
Tip: Do not pay attention to your dog or puppy when you go and come back. It must be normal to leave the house once and return. Hectic greetings and goodbyes only suggest that this situation is unique to your dog.
